Houston Sports & Social Club General Axe Throwing Rules

 

ROSTER/WAIVERS:

There is no maximum number of players allowed on an axe throwing team roster; however players must be registered with Houston Sports & Social Club and must sign the Houston Sports & Social Club waiver to be able to participate. Please refer to the Houston Sports & Social Club General Rules for rules regarding roster adjustments and additional detail regarding waivers.

 

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY:

Please refer to the General Rules for details regarding player eligibility.

 

SPORTSMANSHIP:

Houston Sports & Social Club expects all participants to play with the highest level of sportsmanship. Rude or demeaning behavior to the opposing team, and/or your own team members will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Unsportsmanlike behavior may result in that player being ejected from the game. An ejection may result in further suspension from participation in current and/or future Houston Sports & Social Club sports. An ejected player is required to leave the premises immediately. Refusal to leave the premises may result in a team forfeit and/or suspension.

 

Any disputes or complaints regarding a sportsmanship or ejection can be addressed with the league after the day of play in which the incident took place. On the day of the incident, the decision made by Houston SSC or venue staff will be considered final and disputes will not be addressed by the league.

 

ATTIRE:

Closed-toe shoes are required. 

 

GAME EQUIPMENT:

Players can bring their own axe or they use the axes that are provided by BATL. Axes must follow the requirements below:

- Axe head weight between 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 lbs

- Axe handle length 13 to 17 inches from top of axe head to base of handle

- Must be a wooden handle

 

TEAMS/FORFEITS:

The minimum number of players required to play a legal game is 1 player. All games will have a 5 minute grace period if a team does not have 1 player present. If a team does not possess the minimum amount of players to start once the grace period has expired, the opposing team will receive a win for the first game of the match. If the team does not possess the minimum number of players by 15 minutes past game time, a forfeit will be assessed.

 

Since teams will be able to play whether their opponents are present are not, there will be NO forfeit fines assessed for absences.

 

GAME PLAY:

3 matches per night with each match consisting of 3 round with 5 throws each round. Winner is determined best 2 out of 3 rounds. The 3rd round will be played regardlesss of the outcome of the first 2 rounds for tiebreaker scenarios. One foot must start from behind the white starting line. No player may cross the red safety line until both axes have stopped moving.

 

SCORING:

First 4 axes of each round must be thrown at circle target.  Blue circle 1 point, red circle 3 points, black circle 5 points. 50% of axe blade must be in higher point value in order to receive higher points. On 5th throw clutches become active green dots worth 7 points. You only need to break paint not get majority, must call clutch on 5th throw rest of scoring becomes dead. The player in the lead throws first on 5th axe. Same time on other 4 throws. Axe must be pulled out of the wood by thrower. If it falls from the board before the thrower pulls it out, it doesn't count

If a rule is not otherwise stated here standard WATL rules hold.

 

PLAYOFFS

 

SEEDING:

Playoff seeding will be determined by the best overall records. In the event of ties, head-to-head matchups will determine higher seed whenever possible. When head-to-head matchups cannot clearly determine a higher seed, tiebreakers will be determined in the following order:

  1. Head-to-head matchups
  2. Highest team point differentials for the season
  3. Highest team total points for the season
  4. Lowest team total points allowed for the season
  5. Coin Flip
  6. Overtime Rules (Playoffs Only)
